Minister without Portfolio Lo Ping-cheng on Sunday led a delegation to attend the 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Women and the Economy Forum in Seattle, Washington, with representatives from several government agencies and civic organizations including the Executive Yuan’s Department of Gender Equality, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foundation for Women’s Rights Promotion and Development. The delegation attended the forum’s High Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) on Women and the Economy.

Taiwan ranks seventh globally based on the same assessment methodology used to compile the most recent U.N. Gender Inequality Index published by the U.N. Development Programme, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs Aug. 15.

Taiwan’s nongovernmental organizations raise the country’s global profile in areas spanning culture, environmental protection, human rights, medical care, sports and women’s empowerment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said April 27.

On the afternoon of April 19, President Tsai Ing-wen attended an International Holocaust Remembrance Day event and delivered remarks, in which she said that Taiwan is working with our international partners to advance religious freedom, fight discrimination, promote gender equality, and advocate for human rights and democracy. The president also expressed hope that we can leave a better and more inclusive world to future generations.

The Executive Yuan’s Department of Gender Equality is delighted to report that Taiwan has ranked second in its first ever inclusion in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI), placing behind only Belgium in the 2023 edition of the index, which surveyed 179 countries and territories.

The Ocean Affairs Council organized the “APEC Workshop on Promoting Women’s Role in Ocean Science towards Sustainable and Inclusive Ocean Governance” on March 16th and 17th in Kaohsiung as part of its efforts to promote and enhance women’s participation in ocean science. It echoes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, and APEC’s theme for 2023, “Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All.”
